Elayne Chou, PhD
Dr. Elayne Chou is a counseling psychologist with a practice in Oakland, California, specializing in coaching and consulting with individuals and families from a cross-cultural and Bowen family systems approach. She has a focus on working with Asian Americans, as well as in providing adoption-competent therapy to Asian adult adoptees and their families. She also works as an executive coach with leaders of color.
In addition to teaching at the Bowen Center in the Introduction to Murray Bowen’s Theory of Human Functioning and Continuing Studies in Bowen Family Systems Theory programs, Elayne is a co-moderator for The Bowen Center’s Clinical Conference Series and is a lecturer in the Rutgers University School of Social Work Bowen Family Systems Theory Clinical Certificate program. In the past, Elayne has been Adjunct Faculty or Lecturer at San Francisco State University, Diablo Valley College, University of California-Irvine, and Renmin University in Beijing. She is a graduate of University of Michigan and The Ohio State University, and completed three years postgraduate study of Bowen theory through the Postgraduate Program at the Bowen Center. She was appointed to the Bowen Center faculty in 2024.
