Joan Jurkowski, MS, LCPC

Joan Jurkowski is a licensed clinical counselor in Maryland and Washington, DC. She is also a certified alcohol and drug counselor in Maryland. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Loyola University, Baltimore, MD. She attended the Bowen Center Postgraduate Program, 1992-1998, and the Research Seminar, 1999-2011. Ms. Jurkowski was appointed to the faculty in 2009, retiring in 2020. She serves on the editorial board of Family Systems and taught in the Online Introduction to Bowen Theory. She also served on the Program Committee and supervised trainees attending the Postgraduate Program.

Ms. Jurkowski worked for substance abuse and mental health agencies in Baltimore, MD, until 2014, holding the positions of therapist, director of admissions, and clinical coordinator. She has maintained a private practice in Baltimore County, MD, since 2011. Ms. Jurkowski has presented papers locally and nationally on efforts to define a self in one’s family, bridging emotional cutoff, substance abuse, triangles, and therapy from the perspective of Bowen family systems theory.
